魁市慶祝建城四百週年，特邀請了披頭四（BEATLES）要員保羅麥卡尼（PAUL McCARTNEY）於七月廿日晚前來該市的阿布拉罕平原（PLAINS OF ABRAHAM ）舉行一次盛大的免費露天音樂會。由於阿布拉罕平原是當年英軍侵略新法蘭西與法軍激戰的主要戰場，所以有些團體人士認為邀請保羅麥卡尼這位英國的樂壇天王巨星前來表演並不適宜。這些批評聲音從開幕那天起已經不絕於耳，先是反對聯邦軍隊遊行助慶，如今輪到保羅麥卡尼。不過這位天王巨星對這些批評聲音不以為然。事實上在廿日晚，有超過廿萬歌迷聚集在演唱地點，他們的歡呼聲足以掩蓋了反對聲音。
雖然他較早時以法語表示：JE PARLE SEULEMENT UN PETIT PEN FRANCAIS （我衹會說一點點法語），但他先後說了不止一句，例如：BONSOIR LES QUEBECOIS ﹗BONSOIR TOUTE LA GANG ﹗（晚安，魁北克人﹗晚安，所有的人﹗）及在唱含有法文歌詞的首本名曲 MICHELLE 及 BIRTHDAY 這首歌時，他特別強調獻給：UNE DAME QUI A 400 ANS （一位已四百歲的女士）。他還告訴樂迷：C' EST MA PREMIERE VISITE AU QUEBEC （這是我首次拜訪魁北克），並稱讚：「這是一處絕佳的地方。」

現場的法裔樂迷對於有關爭議嗤之以鼻。「無論法或英國，我省能夠有這種級數的藝人來表演是難得的喜事。」夏蒂（D. HARDY ）說。「已經是陳年舊事。」勒胡作里爾（M. LEHOUILLIER）說。「他們不應該再談論。」突絲藍（L. TOUSIGNANT ）說，她對整隊披頭四的喜愛多過保羅‧麥卡尼，但亦渴望他們任何人前來表演。對於那些反對保羅‧麥卡尼前來的聲音，她認為是「荒謬可笑。我不介意有位音樂藝人在此。相反地，我認為大家的態度必須開放。」

自稱十幾歲時就喜愛保羅‧麥卡尼音樂的霍汀（P. FORTIN ）說，政治「在這慶祝活動中無立足之地。有了他在此我們感到榮幸。」更何況有些本地樂迷年紀大了，不知何時才能與保羅‧麥卡尼再見面。
